Celebrating the life of
William Howard Moore Jr. (Bill)
August 16, 1937 - November 06, 2024
William Howard Moore Jr., affectionately known as Bill, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2024, in Savannah, GA, at the age of 87. Born on August 16, 1937, in Cambridge, Maryland, as the beloved only child of Louise and William Howard Moore Sr. Bill lived a life filled with adventure, accomplishment, and an enduring love for family and adventure.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Jacki Moore, and a close family. He is survived by his son, Geoff Moore, and his stepchildren, Lisa & Joe Loya and Tracey & Mark Sargent. He was a cherished grandfather to Jill Loya, Josh Loya, Anna Sargent, Tommy Moore, Sarah Moore, Alison Moore, Lotus Argall, and Chelsea Stutzman; and great-grandfather to Parker Loya, Calico Argall, and Orchid Argall. Also surviving him is his loyal Golden Doodle, Abby, who was never far from his side. Bill was predeceased by his son, Will Moore, and grandson Kris Moore, whose memories he carried with him always.
After studying engineering at Virginia Tech, Bill embarked on a distinguished career at Measurex, a California-based startup in the pulp and paper industry. Rising through the ranks to Regional Vice President, Bill’s career took him across the globe, with homes in places as far as Hong Kong. Yet, no matter how far he traveled, Bill always returned to one of his first passions: sailing.
An accomplished sailor, he competed in the 1968 Olympic Trials in the International Finn Class and won numerous regattas over the years, including first place in the SAYRA PHRF Championship and the Geechee Sailing Club St. Patrick’s Regatta.
Bill's love for competition extended beyond the water. He was an avid Virginia Tech football fan, faithfully cheering for the Hokies every season. Every year, he and his sons carried on a cherished tradition of attending a college football game together—a highlight for all of them.
Bill and Jacki enjoyed traveling together, finding beauty and excitement in destinations like Ireland, Spain, and Greece, as well as in their favorite spots closer to home, like Lake Tahoe. His life was rich with family, friendships, and unforgettable experiences.
Known for his quick wit and fierce intellect, Bill had a knack for clever humor and a remarkable ability to always be right—at least, as he saw it. When his sons once asked what he wanted his grandchildren to call him, he replied without hesitation, "The Grand Dad," a title that matched his big personality and sense of pride.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Dr, Savannah, GA 31406.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who wish to honor Bill’s memory to spend a day on the water or cheer on the Hokies with a loved one.
Your grief will gradually fade but your love and memories of Bill never will.
